Setting Lanterns Adrift – “Toro Nagashi”

Hello, I am owner of FEEL TOKYO.

The Summer season has begun in Japan.

Around the middle of August, we will have “Bon” (お盆)period ,

a Buddiest event to hold a memorial service to the spirites of ancestors.

When bon is over, the sprits are sent on their way.

This is called the escorting of the spirits and fires to speed their seeing off are lit

at entrances of homes and offerings are floated on rivers and the ocean.

So-called ” Toro Nagashi”(灯籠流し)are held at some parts of Japan toward bon.

In the darkness, a lot of lanterns lighting warmly are floating.

Reflection on water is fantastic.
